Boys Track Team Victorious over Stony Brook

Congratulations to the Boys Track Team on their nail biter victory over Stony Brook. Every single athlete played a vital role in the success of the team, with the meet coming down to the relay. Our boys showed the hearts of champions, winning two out of the three relays and giving Greenport/Southold a 67-65 victory. Special performances go out to Owen Klipstein from Southold taking 1st on both the triple jump and the 1600m with a jump of 37’11.5″ and a time of 5:16 in addition to second place in the 400m with a time of 55.6. Congratulations also go out to Miguel Torres for taking first in the 400m dash as well as the 400m High Hurdles with a time of 68.3 for the HH and 55.5 on the Dash. Mateo Arias also had a strong performance taking first in the 800m with a time of 2:17 and second in the 1600m with a time of 5:21. Furthermore, Justin Bracken also had a strong day leading the sprinters with a third place finish in both the 200m dash and the Long Jump. Moving on to the field events, both the throwers and jumpers came up big for the team with Nick Wallace taking second in the Disc with a throw of 97’6″, Elijah Smith took third with a throw of 87′, James Thilbery and James Scott both from Southold took first and second in the Shot Put with a major PR of 39’3″ for Thilbery and 31’6″  for Scott. Sean McCabe also came up big with third place finish in the Triple Jump. Lastly, as previously mentioned, both our 4x400m made up by Mateo Arias, Miguel Torres, Oscar Tomas, and Walker Sutton from Southold and our 4x800m made up by Adolfo Romano, Michael Chacon from Southold, Anakin Mignone also from Southold, and Elijah Smith took first place giving us the final 10 points of the meet, and sealing the victory for our team. Mr. Morales, the coach, says “I could not be any more proud of the group of guys that we have, as they continue to improve and show that they are not to be taken lightly. As we say each time we finish practice – “Hard Work Pays Off!” Go Greenport!”
