Greenport Elementary School has started a School Safety Patrol using the AAA program. Students in Grades 4 – 6 applied for the patrol by completing an application. Students then asked a teacher to sign off on their application before handing it in for approval. Once students were approved for the Safety Patrol, they started their training. Students worked with the Safety Patrol Advisor, Mrs. Gianmugnai, Mr. Tsaveras, Officer Simmons, Mr. Hines, Bus Drivers as well as several teachers to prepare for their posts. The Safety Patrol members were installed at the Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, October 16. Officer Simmons swore the students in as they said the Safety Patrol Pledge. Students then received their certificates and badges. A celebration in the Elementary Library was held after the ceremony. The Safety Patrol started their posts on Monday, October 22. Safety Patrol members will be monitoring students and reminding their peers to always practice safe behavior when arriving and departing from school.
