Dear Greenport School Family,

We hope this letter finds you healthy and safe. We all miss the children but are happy that they are home safe with their families.

It has been several days since we have launched our Distance Learning Plan, and we are writing with some updates. We hope that the students have been accessing their coursework and are learning how to best navigate this new type of learning. We are very grateful for the support of their parents and families.

All elementary students should continue to go to our school website for their classwork. We have learned that the school website has provided a consistent way for teachers and students to engage in distance learning. Students in grades 7-12 will be responsible to join Google Classrooms for ALL courses starting on Monday. We have learned that this platform will provide a consistent way for teachers and students to engage in distance learning. As with any school program, our success is made possible by the hard work and dedication of our school staff and the support of our parents and families. Thank you.

Our Distance Learning Plan meets the goal of keeping our children connected to their learning and our school community during the school closures. With any new undertaking there are challenges and areas that require further development and adjustment. As we do with any project, we will be approaching this thoughtfully and carefully. Our faculty and staff want our Distance Learning Plan to continue supporting and guiding our students and their connection to school.

This is a challenging moment in our lives. We appreciate your feedback and suggestions, which are informing our planning and preparation. Most importantly we are grateful for the spirit of togetherness that exists in Greenport during this unprecedented time. Our School Family is united, and together we will get through this.

Stay safe and healthy. We hope you’ll tune into our Bedtime Stories each night at 8 pm on our Instagram page @greenportufsd.

Sincerely,

Joe Tsaveras
