Sign up forms for the summer session of Driver’s Ed are available in the HS office. Greenport students you need to have payment and registration form in by Friday June 8th. Please go to the business office with your payment first, then turn into the HS office.

Congratulations to Johnathan Montgomery, Emelyn Azurdia and Melody Silie who all performed an All State NYSSMA vocal solo this weekend.  They all received an A+ and Melody earned a perfect score. Add to that that both Johnathan and Melody performed at the Teeny Awards with the cast for Little Shop of Horrors and Johnathan performed in a Midsummer Night’s Dream with the Playing at will Club. Busy weekend, so what did you do?


Attention students as the school draws to an end you are reminded of a few things you are responsible for, please turn in all library books to Mrs. Richter by Monday June 11th.

Please turn in all books to your classroom teacher on the dates they require them. Any books not turned in you will be responsible to pay for their lose. Also, locker clean out days with be Friday, June 8th and Monday, June 11th. The custodians will have garbage cans in the hallways for you to toss your unwanted items in. Please use them.


Attention all Math League members, the last meeting for this year will be Thursday morning at 7:15 am.


A volleyball preseason meeting will take place in the small gym today at 2:50 pm. THe meeting is for students in grades 8 through 11.


Any girl in grades 8 through 11 interested in playing fall JV or Varsity girls soccer, please see Mr. Golden in the  athletic office.

Friday, June 1, 2018 A Day

Science 8 exams will be given in class next Monday. Please bring a pencil and pen with you. No backpacks or cell phone will be allowed in the classroom.


Attention all existing and new members of the National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society: there will be a meeting in the auditorium on Tuesday, June 5th at 7:20 am.


Attention seniors you are invited to an ALL Seniors’ PE class today during period 2. Teachers of non PE senior classes, please take attendance in your period 2 class then escort your class down to the gym.


Attention all Math League members, the last meeting for this year will be Thursday morning at 7:15 am.


Cast members from Little Shop of Horrors who will be performing for the Teeny Award Ceremony on Sunday, costume pieces that you will need are on the costume rack on stage left and can be picked up after school. Please be at Longwood High School at 12 noon. Bring your costumes with you and/or a change of best dressed attire. Any questions please see Mrs. Peterson in teh HS office.


Remember that MidSummer Night’s Dream will be presented by our Playing at Will group tomorrow at 12 noon in Mitchell Park. Rain location will the auditorium.

Reminders to Seniors!

Seniors:
Reminder that time capsule items are due to Mrs. Hopkins or Mrs. Kollen by Tuesday, June 5th.  Tree planting ceremony is Thursday June 7th at 8:30am.
Senior Awards Breakfast is Friday, June 8th at 8:30am at The Halyard Restaurant at the Soundview. If you have not paid yet, but do so ASAP.

National Honor and National Junior Honor Society Induction Ceremony Held

Congratulations to the newest members of the National Honor Society and the National Junior Honor Society.  The induction ceremony was Tuesday, May 22.  The guest speaker was Lydia Wells.  Mr. Davies and his students built the candle holders that had the 4 pillars on them: Leadership, Service, Scholarship, and Character. There was a reception afterward with cookies baked by Mrs. Ladalia and her students.

Congratulations to Sean McCabe the Rotary Student of the Month for June.


Student who missed the Academic Award last Thursday, please stop by the HS office to pick up your certificate.


The NY Science 8 exam will be given tomorrow during periods 1 to 3 in the HS library. Please report to homeroom first for attendance and bring sharpened pencils with you.


Atheletes, if you signed up to have a physical, please stop in the athletic office and talk with Mrs. Dinizio.  The date and time have now been set up.

Lena Wolf Named Valedictorian. Jenna Loper Named Salutatorian

Greenport High School have announced their 2018 valedictorian and salutatorian.

 

Congratulations to Lena Wolf who has been named the 2018 Valedictorian.

Lena will be attending Purdue University in the fall for Civil Engineering.  She is Vice-President of the DECA Club, President of the Drama Club, President of Interact and National Honor Society.  Lena is on the Varsity Field Hockey and Track & Field as well as Model  UN.

Jenna will be attending Suffolk County Community College for Liberal Arts.  She is a member of the National Honor Society and has received Academic Excellence awards.

Joe McInnis Honored by LI Science Congress and Science Teachers Assoc of NY

Congratulations to Joe McInnis on his participation and recognition of his outstanding ability, interest,and motivation as attested by his presentation on Iridovirus-6 and Colony Collapse Disorder at the Long Island Science Congress Senior Division competition back on April 18, 2018.

Joe was among 1200 students from both Nassau and Suffolk Counties ranging from grades 10th -12th

The awards ceremony was held May 22nd at St. Anthony’s High School where Joe received the Long Island Science Congress Senior Division HIGHEST HONORS along with awards from both Science Teachers Association of NY State Suffolk Division and the Robert Nelson Memorial Award, which was only given to one 10th grader.

This is quite an honor and accomplishment!

 

 

Friday, May 18th, 2018 B Day

Attention, Little Shop of Horrors cast members, Mrs. Nitti would like to schedule a rehearsal for the Teeny Awards this Sunday at noon to 2. Please Stop by the HS office to let Mrs. Peterson know if you are available to come.


Reminder to all National Honor Society and Junior Honor Society members and inductees, there will be a rehearsal Monday, May 21st, during 9th period. The induction ceremony will be at 7pm on Tuesday, May 22nd.


Congratulations to the boys varsity track athletes who qualified for Suffolk County Division Championships. The following athletes will be competing at Hampton Bays High School next Tuesday and Thursday:

Kenny Latham in the 110m hurdles

Jorge Torrento in the 100m and 200m dash

Cristian Ardiano in the 400m race

Kristian Nikolov in the 400m hurdles

Mateo Arias in the 3200m and Steeplechase

Kevin Azama in the long jump and high jump

Meko Bell in the high jump
