A Message from Class of 2020 Advisors

May 19, 2020

Dear Senior Parents/Guardians and Greenport Community,

We, as senior class advisors, would like to take this opportunity to extend our gratitude to you.  The outpouring of support and love for our school, especially our seniors this year, has been overwhelming. This is an amazing community we live in.

We want to assure everyone that the Class of 2020 is being thought of in every way possible;  we want them to walk away from their senior year with the best memories. We always have the best interest of our students at heart and consider what they want. By now, senior graduation banners have been displayed both on school grounds and throughout the village; a senior hangout with 20 seniors was held via Google Meets last week.  We hope to continue these hangouts and encourage more seniors to join in the following weeks.  Senior bingo is planned with great prizes to be awarded for early June and a drive thru lunch happening on Thursday, May 21,2020 from 11:30-1:30 pm.  Class of 2020 merchandise is available to purchase on the school website. Clink on the link, order your gear and ship it to your house.

The scholarship breakfast will be held virtually on June 12, 2020.  More details on how to view this event will follow. A senior “walk” will be held on June 18, 2020 at the school.

Graduation will take place on June 28, 2020. There has been no final determination on the format for the commencement ceremony. However, we are currently developing a plan to host a virtual ceremony consisting of speeches from the top 5 seniors, principal, superintendent and guest speaker, along with a parade either leading up to or following the in person presentation of diplomas.  In addition, we are not discounting the possibility of hosting an in-person event such as an outdoor ceremony. Though, this is dependent on state guidelines and what is determined as permissible by our state officials.

At this time, we are asking anyone that has ideas regarding end of the year senior activities, to please email us at seniorclassadvisors@gufsd.org.  We do appreciate the input and support from our generous community.  All ideas will be considered and necessary contact will be made.

Best,

Lauren Kollen

Mejor,

Lauren Kollen
