Tuesday, November 29, 2016 B Day

The next National Honor Society and the Junior High Honor Society will be meeting this Thursday morning at 7:15 am in Room 212.  Come ready to discuss service projects and fundraising activities.

Attention to anyone who plays lacrosse or who is interested in trying out this Spring starting tomorrow, lacrosse practice will be held at Mattituck H.S. at 3:45 outside behind the high school. Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays from 3:45-4:45 will be helmets and gloves. From 5-6 practice will move inside to the weight room. Practice is open for boys in grades 7th-12th. Come on down and meet Coach Amato and see what lacrosse is all about!


Reminder to all students who drive to school that you must register your car in the HS office to obtain a parking sticker. Parking spots with numbers are assigned to faculty and staff. Please park in the UNnumbered spots in the east parking lot. Thank you.

Monday, November 28th, 2016

Full  cast rehearsal for Once on This Island will be today starting at 3 pm in Room 111. ALL cast members are required to attend. Please bring with you a WRITTEN list of conflicts. If you are playing a sport, please clear with your coach that you will be to their practice after drama club rehearsal. Please see Mrs. Peterson in the HS office with any questions. Reminder that Poinsettia order forms are due in today. Please drop off in the HS office.

Tuesday, November 22, 2016 B Day

JH Girls volleyball will practice tomorrow at 8:30 am in the big gym.  Please see coach Johnstone if you can’t make it.


Reminder to Seniors:  Pampered Chef fundraiser is in full force. Packets and money are due November 28th. If you did not receive a packet, please pick one up in guidance.


The high school drama club WILL be performing Once on This Island, a calypso flavored tale of one small girl who finds love in a world of prejudice. Congratulations to the leads and featured parts who have been cast, please sign the cast list posted in the lobby next to the auditorium. Ensemble members are still needed for this musical production. Please see Mrs. Peterson in the HS office if you would like to sign up or come to our 1st FULL cast rehearsal on Monday November 28th in the chorus room after school.


BOCES Students will have classes on Wednesday, November 23rd. Bus transportation has been arranged for you from Greenport School to your BOCES Center for both morning and afternoon sessions. Students in the afternoon session, please be here on time in the morning to catch the bus.


Parent teacher conferences will continue this afternoon starting at 12 noon. Conferences will be an open forum style in the big gym.


Dismissal today will be at the end of period 4 for Greenport students in grades 7 to 12.

School will be closed Wednesday through Friday. Enjoy your Thanksgiving Break with family and friends. Classes resume on Monday November 28th.

Sam Strickland, November Rotary Student of the Month

img_1790-2  Congratulations to Senior Sam Strickland on being named Rotary Student of the Month for November.

Sam  is an HB Ward BOCES student pursing a career in Law Enforcement and is currently the head sergeant in his class. Sam has been active in many of Greenport’s extra-curricular clubs including Junior High Interact, Small Engines, and GPO TV. An avid basketball player since he was in the 4th grade, he was the Varsity team captain in his junior year. He is hopeful that this year’s team will have a successful year and get into the playoffs.  Outside of school he enjoys fishing, crabbing, quading and dirt biking. Sam has several jobs around the area where you may find him including Brookhaven Irrigation, Cross Sound Ferry and the Soundview Restaurant.
Sam does not have a final decision on college yet, but it will include Law Enforcement.

Attention all boys in grades 9 -12.  TODAY is the cut-off date for submitting contracts for boys basketball.  No contracts will be accepted after 12 noon.

Today is the last day to contribute a non-perishable food item for the NHS and the NJHS Thanksgiving food drive.  Please deposit them in boxes found outside the offices and in the lobby.  For further information, please ask Mrs. Artukmac or Mrs.DaSilva.

An additional call back day has been set for this afternoon for the spring HS Musial. Cast members who need to come have been emailed. The list is posted on the bulletin board outside the HS office and in the lobby. If anyone is still lingering who wants to audition, today is the last day to attend.

Attention all students in grades 9-12 looking for an overnight, winter adventure.  Now is the time to enroll in the Outing Club ski, water park, tubing trip set to take place January 28th-29th.  Deposits need to be made by next Tuesday.  Please see Ms. Douglass, Mrs. Agosta, or Mrs. Burke with questions or concerns.  Don’t miss this exciting trip!

At 2 pm, SUNY Stony Brook; located in Stony Brook, New York.  The most popular majors are Health Professions, Biology and Psychology

All SH & MS chorus students must bring in a book or work to do for today’s chorus class.  Chorus today will be used as a study hall.

Music for call back auditions is available in the HS office for all interested in trying out for this year’s musical You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown. All who auditioned last week are asked to attend. If you were not able to attend last week’s auditions, you can still come on Friday in the auditorium starting at 3 pm.
